Wheel of Care

Slow care on a fast bike—that’s the motto of the Brussels-based care service Wheel of Care, founded in 2017 by nurse and midwife Flora Billiouw. She grew up in Brussels, knows the city and its traffic problems well, and has therefore relied from the very beginning on the most flexible mode of transportation available here: the bicycle. Together with her team, Flora cares for the elderly, the sick, and people with disabilities, as well as expectant and new mothers throughout Brussels—using small, agile e-bikes. This allows the caregivers and midwives to reach every corner of the city quickly, always find a place to park, and avoid wasting valuable time in traffic—time they’d rather spend with their patients. In Wheel of Care, we follow the caregivers as they go about their work and see how the bicycle can be a real game-changer in everyday life.
